Specialist teacher training
Teachers in specialist support roles, classes and schools follow the same basic training as for
compulsory school teachers.

A person who has undergone teacher education for comprehensive schools or their equivalent
is entitled to enter into special teacher's study as continuing education (with 40 -60 credits
regarded as a separate qualification and being approximately 1 - 1.5 years of study).

These studies are divided into special class teacher education and special teacher education.
Successful completion qualifies the person for special needs support class duties in
comprehensive education.

These programmes of studies can be followed at the Universities of Jyaskyla, Joensuu, Helsinki
and Vaasa.
