Teacher Education for Inclusion
The Teacher Education for Inclusion project is considering:
- What kind of teachers do we need for an inclusive society in a 21st Century school?
- What are the essential teacher competences for inclusive education?
To help answer these questions, around 50 experts from across Agency member countries have taken part in a series of study visits to:
- Belfast, Northern Ireland
- Porto, Portugal
- Eger, Hungary
- Borås, Sweden
- Utrecht, the Netherlands
Each visit was planned following a theme related to the above questions and included: presentations from the host country and visitors on teacher education and discussions on the necessary competences, attitudes and values to be developed during initial teacher education.
The visits have provided a wealth of information, which will now be used to develop a series of project outputs, including a synthesis report on teacher education in all member countries and a profile of inclusive teachers.
Information from all of the five visits, as well as on systems for teacher education for inclusion from each of the participating countries will be available from this is website in the Autumn. The synthesis report and profile of inclusive teachers will be made available in 2011.
