Learning and teaching - Poland


In an opinion prepared for pupils with SEN by Psychological and Educational Service Centre where the assessment of disability or impairment takes place, teachers usually can find the word adaptation among recommendations for the school. In the opinions issued to children with disabilities who demonstrate intellectual norm, this word concerns the adaptation or modification of forms and methods of teaching, not too often it concerns the curriculum or the educational requirements. 

As far as children with mental disabilities are concerned, the teaching program is modified and adapted to their needs and abilities including different teaching forms and methods as well.  A teacher may write his/her own teaching program or use the one issued by the Ministry of National Education. The modification of the teaching program involves the implementation of educational requirements that meet children’s needs. The requirements specify what a pupil is supposed to learn and do to achieve a given school mark. In reality, the requirements are usually lowered and simplified.
