Challenges and tendencies - Portugal

These are the most important factors in our view to the implementation of good practice in the assessment and learning process of pupils with SEN:

  • Initial and on-going training for all teachers regarding pedagogical differentiation, team/pair work, organisation and management of the classroom and assessment
  • Stability within the school (teachers, specialists etc.)
  • Increasing family participation during school life;
  • Existence of multidisciplinary regional teams supporting Schools Specialised Educational Aid Services.

The changes needed in this field can be summed up in the dissemination of “good practices” which are a mere application of what is written in the legal documents.

Therefore, our greatest challenge is to put into common practice all the principles and guidance about curricula/assessment/inclusion written in the law.
