Promoting inclusive education: EASNIE co-operation agreement with the Organisation of Ibero-American States

EASNIE has signed a co-operation agreement with the Organisation of Ibero-American States (OEI) to promote inclusive education practices, particularly for learners with special educational needs and international learners.

The OEI works across the Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking countries in Europe and the Americas. It promotes co-operation between governments and other organisations in 23 countries in the fields of education, science, technology and culture. Both EASNIE and the OEI have a shared interest in inclusive education development.

EASNIE Director João Costa and Mariano Jabonero, Secretary-General of the OEI, signed the agreement on 3 September 2025. It will ensure the exchange of knowledge between the two organisations, helping to promote inclusive education research and practices across Europe and Ibero-America. The agreement has a particular focus on promoting early childhood education, work with migrant communities, digital education and leadership initiatives.

Dr Costa stressed the importance of sharing work more widely, to enable countries beyond Europe to benefit from findings and experiences, and to allow European countries to learn from others.
