Mainstreaming ICTs for persons with disabilities to access information and knowledge

A consultation meeting focusing upon 'Mainstreaming ICTs for persons with disabilities to access information and knowledge' has recently been organised by UNESCO and the Global Initiative for Inclusive ICTs, a flagship advocacy initiative of the UN Global Alliance for ICT and Development.

The role of the UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities for accessible information provision was discussed, with particular focus on Article 9 and 24. A specific topic of discussion was “Developing Inclusive Policies for Persons with Disabilities to Access Information and Knowledge”.

The Agency participated in this consultation and presented general information on its work and mission as well as specific information from the ICT in Special Needs Education project and the project update scheduled for 2011.

Information on the consultation can be accessed at the UNESCO website. A white paper will be published in the near future and will be announced via the Agency news.
